Yup, they did. He did a little investigation when he still had his memories and wrote it down in the journal along with some details of his life before forgetting everything
They may have only the memories of their new lives but keep in mind that our main hero was writing a journal while he still had his memories. It's only because of the journal he is aware of what happened even if he doesn't have any memories of it :)
Did they really swap bodies if he can't remember his old life ?
