Since they didn't grow up as brother and sister, it's more like his brother is gone and he now realizes he has a petty girl living with him. Is he really just being a "protective" older brother or is there some jealously and a touch of possessiveness there?
There are things that we don't know, either that they don't want us to know. Or they can't believe its possible it can.
