Secret agent mom
Hello dear readers. I'm going to test a few options for a new blog desing. Currently I'll be experimenting with text and background colours. I'll check out a few options and I would love to hear your opinions about it :)
Marti, I applaud how you're trying to experiment with different color palettes and text/background designs. As you know from my captions on my own blog site, I love to do the same thing---since plain white background & black text can get boring! I'm sort of an artist myself, so the little details matter. ;)
May I make a few humble suggestions? I had to teach myself how to do it through trial and error, and although blog is much younger than yours, I can offer a few tidbits from personal experience. 1.) First, it's good to create a "border" around your photo, and you can choose various colors. ^^ 2.) Then put the text in and compare it to the photo border/background colors you want. Tweak as you like.
3.) Lastly, it's a nice touch to create your own little special "logo" mini-image for your captions. Lovely captions like yours definitely deserve one (seriously)! This can be placed anywhere, but it should be your special "signature." Mine is pretty simple (just a Venus/Mars heart "K"), as you see from my blog site. But the "logo/signature" image does a couple of vital things: it marks your caps with a personal stylistic flourish; and also more importantly, it can be used to "cover" a small part of the photo that you don't like or don't want, such as an advertisement link or something like that. I think you'll enjoy that flexibility, once you see it in action!
Just some thoughts, 'cuz you asked for 'em. I adore your work, my beloved Big Sis, and you are always an inspiration to me! Because your stories captivate, no matter the color palette or design. Maybe I can't quite write stories like you do, but I can maybe help offer little stylistic pointers if you like. Just email me, whenever, or I can comment on your works as I do here and there. ^.^
I love the Idea of trying to experiment with your designs, Karen's points are pretty much everything I was thinking.
I do want to add, that sometimes Font style and size interferes with color options in the background. Your post above "secret agent mom" was harder to read than "one night stand" and "after many years" (posted the same day). some of it is the conditioning of reading black print, but also the white wants to bleed together making it hard to keep my place on the line. A thicker font or larger size/spacing could help with the problem... or make it worse, depending on colors chosen but I wanted to add that input as you experiment.
Anyways, good luck and I can't wait to see with what you come up with. (both design wise and Content)
cal narri, i like your ideas, and i would love it if you would provide commentary on my captions too. if you are too busy, i would understand, and would not fault you. but my (rather new) caption site is:

Please tell me, if you have a moment: am I doing things "right" as far as blog design? (Please remember, I am new, because Marti taught me that it was possible to start a blog site when OTGC was down, which it always seems to be for me...but I would love to hear your comments on my site too!) <3 karen
It's a start!
